F1 has returned from it’s summer break, and so has USP Content’s coverage of the sport for BBC 5 Live.
The season has been scintillating, with the championship lead ebbing and flowing between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel in the drivers championship and Ferrari and Mercedes in the constructors. They aren’t the only teams impressing – Red Bull have won 3 races already, but were dealt the news at the beginning of the summer break that 2 time race winner in 2018, Daniel Ricciardo will be leaving the team to join the works Renault team for 2019. This coincides with Red Bull dropping the Renault engine to adopt a new Honda power unit.
The summer break has been full of more news in the driver market, with Pierre Gasly taking up the seat vacated by Ricciardo at Red Bull and 2 times world champion Fernando Alonso announcing he will not be racing in Formula 1 in 2019 – with fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr. replacing him in the McLaren.
Force India went into the break with uncertainty and the team in administration, but they’ve been saved by a consortium involving Lawrence Stroll – father of Williams driver Lance.
It’s sure to be a fascinating 9 races to go – and where better to start than Spa in Belgium – a race renowned for throwing up classics!
